Training Day Eight – Heavy Breathing

BreathYesterday was a simple two mile day. My knees were stiff and did not want to move which is becoming a consistent feeling at the beginning of every run. I still don’t know if this is normal or if it will pass at some point. I keep hoping that the whole knee situation will improve but I guess it’s too early to tell.

It was better than prior treadmill runs because I kicked it off at 5.5 mph immediately vs. my usual crawl from 4.5 to 5.0 and then 5.5 mph. I stayed at 5.5 for half a mile and then kicked it up to 6 mph (10 min mile, woohoo!). Bumped to 6.5 mph for three minutes  before dropping back to finish the last two minutes at 5.5.

Heavy Breathing Gets Attention

Running at 6 vs. 5.5 seems to be a big deal for my shriveled lungs and couch contoured figure. When running at 6.0 I feel like I am breathing loud or huffing n’ puffing. This time I was conscious of it because I had people on either side of me and I am pretty sure they were looking at me.

Bastards! The guy to my right started at 6.2 mph and he looked like he was bored. He kept looking at me like “ are you ok dude?” but I cant be sure. He might have been looking at me like “he looks like my best friend from high school” but that wasn’t it. I say that cause he was watching from the corner of his eyes. Dude! if your going to stare just stare! The corner eye thing is weird.

Evicted

Anyway, I guess I deserve it because I am still a “stow away” in the advanced training area. He was probably looking at me and wondering why the new guy was in the “advanced” area. I was bound to be discovered at some point. Now it’s only a matter of time before the gym police forcibly evict me from my preferred treadmill and send me back to the other gym neighborhoods.
