Training Day Seventeen – Five Miles Easy

Greenbelt National ParkYesterday was a five mile run and so far still my longest distance in training. I should have completed six miles on Sunday but the whole illness flu thing took care of that.  The gym has been a little desolate lately and I can’t tell if it is because of the holidays or perhaps the economy.

Need Sleep

Anyway, today could have been a terrible running day. In fact, I expected it to be crappy because I went to sleep rather late (11pm) and woke up a little earlier than normal (5am). Additionally, it wasn’t a sound sleep because I woke up several times during the evening.

So, despite a less than stellar nigh of rest, I was feeling good during my first half mile. I was feeling so good that I bumped the speed from 6 Mph to 6.6 Mph and held that pace for 4 miles. The last mile I played at 7.0 and 7.5 before having to finish out at 6.0 (10 min mile).

Completed 5 miles in 46 minutes and I am fairly happy about that.
