Training Day Six – Squeaky Knees and Brick Foot

Rusty gateYesterday was an off day for me. Although I felt fine physically when I started my day, once I set foot on the treadmill it was rough. My feet felt rather heavy as if my shoes were made of brick. At several points during the run I felt like I was slowing to the point where I was about to be shot-off the back of the treadmill.

Squeaky Knees

I was also feeling a slight knee pain that is difficult to describe. I can only describe the feeling as squeaky because the feeling could only be crafted as a sound vs. a feeling. I imagine that if you were to put your ear to both of my knees it would sound like a rusty gate, to a swimming pool, belonging to an abandoned home that may have been built in the 1940s. Perhaps squeaky and crunchy as small pieces of rusted metal breaks off into fragments so small that they have an opportunity to work their tiny, jagged fragments into the joint.

WD40

Fortunately after 1.5 miles the squeakiness had subsided  and I started feel a little better. I am assuming that my body is now “warmed up” and that little micro-people have sprayed WD40 between the joints in my knees while clearing the rusted fragments that once plagued me during the 1st mile.  However, my feet were heavy and “brick like” the whole run. In an effort to shake it off I jumped the speed up to 7mph for about 2 minutes. Sadly, this didn’t really help except that my attention was shifted from my legs to my burning lungs.
