Training Day Twenty Seven – 10 Miles!

Antwerp 10 Miles 2008Finished 10 miles for the first time. This was a treadmill run, so it isn’t quite the same as heading outdoors but I am really just trying to get the distance. It is also difficult to run with kids and the gym has a child care center which is rather useful.

Food and Energy

I experimented with food and supplements to further my education. The night before the run the whole family went out to Bucca-de-Beppo and hammered down piles of pasta. The morning of the run I ate oatmeal about two hours beforehand. I also downed an eight ounce Gatorade.

I came packing. I brought one Gatorade , a water, a gel (caffeinated) and some energy blocks (like carb loaded Jell-O). All this stuff really seemed to help my energy level throughout the run. However, I had some interesting bodily reactions during my run which I will dedicate a separate post to.

Results

I finished in 1hr and 34 minutes. So, adding 3.1 miles puts me just past the two hour mark on race day which is next Sunday.

After turning 30 , now 36, he began to wonder how long he could remain glued to a computer screen before he would need to make drastic changes in his personal habits. Long hours and energy drinks just don't cut the mustard at age 36. Hence the shift in focus and much needed fitness routine.
