Training Day Three – Getting Better

CFL 11-2-08: Montreal Alouettes at Toronto ArgonautsIts getting better. No pain, I know where I am going within the gym “neighborhood” and although I am not close to being a “regular”, I am happy to say that I am feeling better about all this running stuff. Of course I haven’t been running long enough to induce tendonitis or any other potential health type hazard.

I am sure that I will have my challenges as I move forward and undoubtedly I will need to work through them. My wife had her own issues with shoe sizes, toe nails falling off (ouch) and knee pain. I am hopeful that I don’t have to face too many medical challenges until after the marathon.

The Run

I was feeling good, I had no pain or soreness to contend with. I started out by walking half a mile at 3.5 mph to warm-up and then moved up to 4.6mph which right at a 13 minute per mile pace. I picked it up to 5.5 rather quickly and 8 minutes into my run I bumped it to 6mph which is a 10 minute mile. I held my 10 minute mile for 7 minutes and was feeling good so I bumped it up again to 6.5 mph. 6.5 mph is a new level and was hard to maintain but I held on for 3 minutes before dropping back down to 6mph. After running I walked for half a mile and then stretched out.
